Launching Against Difficult Odds: Ipsen

The marketplace situation:

  • The marketplace was complacent - patients were generally satisfied with available treatment options
  • Somatuline Depot would have limited marketing and sales support at launch
  • Somatuline Depot would be the first treatment for acromegaly to be offered in a ready-to-use, prefilled syringe

The Compass solution:

To establish awareness and drive trial and promotion of Somatuline Depot, Compass devised an interactive plan with a four-phased approach:

1. Prepare the market by creating excitement for the brand through an initial, prelaunch placeholder website.

2. Launch into the market with multiple interactive tactics - a targeted eMail blast to HCPs, a full brand Website, and a search engine optimization (SEO) strategy.

3. Become the market by observing the social media space and identifying those key sites that contained acromegaly and treatment information. Compass then employed its Online Outreach service, developing, distributing, and gaining placement of educational content on these prominent sites, with multiple links back to SomatulineDepot.com.

4. Support the market through the creation of AcromegalyAnswers.com, an unbranded blog and webinar uniting the acromegaly community and supporting members' needs.

RESULTS

eMail results:

  • 13% of physicians and 11% of pharmacists opened the launch announcement eMail
  • 39% of the pharmacists who opened the eMail, clicked through to the new Somatuline Depot website

Online Outreach:

  • Online Outreach efforts resulted in 75% penetration and adoption, with 8 of the 11 identified sites implementing the educational content submitted to them

Site traffic and search engine results:

  • In 2008, 80% of site traffic being delivered via paid search
  • Visitors averaged 6.2 minutes on the site

CRM program:

  • 4% of all visitors opted into the database in the first month alone (60% of those were patients; 40%, healthcare professionals) 20% of CRM enrollees went on to print the online coupon for Somatuline Depot; 46% of those redeemed it
